Value of $50 Gold Certificate

$50 Gold Certificates

Fifty Dollar gold certificates were printed for the years 1882, 1913, 1922, and 1928.  Some of the 1882 examples are very rare.  Generally speaking though, large and small size fifty dollar golds are available at will.  If you have any questions about the value of your specific bill, please contact me.  I am likely an interested buyer.  Sales@AntiqueMoney.com

The earliest large size fifty dollar gold certificate is from 1882.  The smallish looking man on the left hand side of the bill is Silas Wright.  Despite saying 1882, these notes were actually printed for many many years after that date.

The design type you see above was used for the 1913 and 1922 fifty dollar gold certificate.  Ulysses Grant is pictured at the center of each bill.  These notes are relatively common.  However, high grade uncirculated examples are few and far between.

The series of 1928 $50 gold certificate looks very similar to the earlier large size $50 except that the paper was smaller and the overprint changed some.  When dealing with 1928 $50s, you want to look for notes in perfect condition, notes with low serial numbers under 1000, or notes that have a star symbol at the beginning on the serial number.  You will be rewarded handsomely if you can find a note that fits any of those three criteria.
