The rarest $20 gold certificate, and one of the rarest gold certificates from all denominations, is the 1863 twenty dollar note. These are just flat our rare. Very few were printed. The ones that were issued traded hands frequently and most all of them were destroyed. These do not hit the market very often; but when they do they almost always sell for more than $100,000. These notes were hand signed by government officials in Washington DC at the time they were issued. The 1863 $20 gold certificate has an eagle perched on a flag and a shield. Each note has a red seal.
