Price Guide for Rare Silver Certificates
Denomination: One Hundred Dollar Bank Note
Type: Silver Certificate
Portrait: James Monroe
$100 Bill Front Picture:
Value and History: This might be our absolute favorite large size $100 bank note. Silver certificates were first issued by The United States in 1878. The one hundred dollar denomination comes in five varieties. You can determine the variety based on the payable location (New York, San Francisco, or Washington DC) and based on the counter signature. These are some of the few non-national bank notes that were actually hand signed by government officials. We would pay tens of thousands of dollars for any intact example.
