Value and History: The vast majority of these notes that you see on the market today are in fact contemporary counterfeits from the 1860s. We probably see three or four counterfeits a year and we have never seen an authentic example outside of major collections. These are actually some of our favorite bank notes. These just look old and antique. There are three varieties out there. Prices start at about $20,000 for the “common” variety. Others are worth considerably more.
