Series of 1882 $5 Blue Seal National Currency

Five dollar bills from 1882 that have a blue seal can be either what collectors call “date backs” or “value backs”. Value backs simply say Five Dollars in very large font on the back of the bill. Date Backs have the years 1882-1908 on them. Despite saying series of 1882, this type of money was actually printed between 1908 and 1921. Some examples can be scarce, but most trade for $250 to $1,000. The most accurate value of such a bill is based on the condition, bank of issue, and serial number. James Garfield is the bearded man on the left hand side of each bill.
